Back during my college days at Columbia University, at any given moment you might suddenly hear this voice in a hallway exploring every possible way a soulful note could be bent. This chile was ALWAYS singing! I would soon come to know him as Xavier, and eventually one summer we lived in the same “arts frat” house and ended up dancing and singing along to tunes in our spare time… actin’ the fool. A few years have passed and in that time we’ve both become professional singers and remained friends.
Every year Xavier blesses us with a wonderful song for Valentine’s Day, and this year’s in no exception! I urge you to click on the image above or visit http://www.xavier.com to download not only this year’s song, but every song ever recorded and shared over the years!
The Valentine’s Day songs have been downloaded thousands of times over the past seven years. “Something About Us” ended up on the radio and was picked up by a Tummy Touch Records for a compilation. Original composition “Strawberry Blonde” was snagged for licensing, and “Baltimore” was featured on BUTT magazine’s site for Valentine’s Day 2009. Mattie Safer, formerly of the Rapture, loved past songs so much, he sang backing vocals alongside NYC’s own Shaquanda Cocoa Mullatta (aka Andre Springer) for last years’ tune “Don’t Let Me Down”. Fashion photographer Marc Baptiste was enamored “Baltimore” so much, he called and demanded to shoot a video for it, which he’ll be releasing sometime this year.
Check it out, and spread the LOVE
