Music and cultural phenomenon Lady Gaga released her newest track, Born This Way, for all the world to hear on Friday February 11th, and as expected, it caused quite the stir. (Or should I say it was causing a commotion?)
This single was definitely the most highly anticipated song of the year, and it’s only February, but when you’re on the roll Gaga is on, one should expect nothing less. They’ve been promoting and leaking and teasing to the public like crazy, including a declaration from Sir Elton John himself that we would be getting not only a new gay anthem but some of the best songwriting EVER. Needless to say, it only took a few hours for the single to reach #1 on almost all iTunes charts. Werq Gaga!
However it’s also become one of her most polarizing singles to date as well. Gaga’s always been polarizing. She’s either the Messiah or the Devil to folks. This single is not only receiving the side-by-side-Madonna comparison (There’s A LOT to remind you of Express Yourself), but the general reaction from fans has been mixed as well. Over at the blog misformusic.com, they’ve observed:
So far in our poll 50% of fans have voted in favour of the track whilst 36% say they hate it and the remaining 14% ‘don’t care’ either way.
Personally, the jury’s still out for me. I don’t hate it, but I also don’t love it. Like all pop music a few more listens, and it might be the first song I want to hear as I get ready in the morning; we’ll see. As of right now, it’s no Rihanna Only Girl In The World, which had me declaring “this is my JAM” immediately.
