Guess We Can’t All Just Get Along/// The Lil’ Kim/Nicki Minaj Beef

Ever since Biggie Smalls(RIP) presented Junior Mafia during the 1995 Source Awards and Lil’ Kim made her TV debut, I have been a huge fan of the Queen Bee. I’ve bought many an album the first day it came out, and probably made a bad decision or two in my time, taking too many of the lyrics from Hardcore and The Notorious K.I.M. to heart. Kim is bad ass; as was proven when she released the only album by a female MC  given 5 mics in The Source Magazine as she got ready to head off to jail. Legendary.

Cut to today, and there’s a new chick on the block named Nicki Minaj. She’s got a lot of unique qualities all going on at the same time, including multiple personalities and voices, crazy styling and endless wigs, and the booty that doesn’t quit, but you’d be crazy if you didn’t see the Lil’ Kim and Missy Elliot similarities. Either way, I applaud her for doing her thing and dominating the current game. She was also just honored 2 weeks ago by becoming the 1st female MC in 12 YEARS to have the #1 album on the Billboard Top 200 chart for Pink Friday… work! I’m still not in love with her flow like I love Kim’s, but I fell in love with her personality after the MTV Special My Time Now.

Unfortunately, there is some serious beef brewing between these two. Lil’ Kim has made it VERY clear that she’s not feelin’ Nicki AT ALL. She thinks Nicki not only jacked her style, but failed to pay homage to someone that helped paved the way so she could do her thing. Just look at the album cover for Kim’s newly released dis record, Black Friday:

Damn Kim! Violent much? I know that battles and beef are a part of Hip-Hop, but it just kills me to see one of my sisters tearing down another.

In Black Friday, Kim says we need to, “Cut the comparisons,” because she’s in the “legendary lane.” Apparently not so. If one is in the “legendary” lane, wouldn’t they be too far ahead of to look back and even have the time to speak two words about the maneuvers of a rookie?  -La Bombe Baby

We’ll see how all this drama plays out. Throughout most of it, Nicki has said very little. She came for her a bit in Roman’s Revenge featuring Eminem, but primarily she’s doing HER, and it seems to be working. Though constantly talking about the hottest chick in the game right now has been working for Kim as well; she apparently sold over 100K of her new mixtape in it’s first week via Paypal… which is some nice coin!

However this continues to play out, I hope these two realize their power and influence and that they are representations of black womanhood to young girls all over. Let’s try to keep it cute ladies. Less negativity. More positivity. And let’s try to shy away from images like this:

Roger That!
